Abuja, Feb 11 (UNI) Nigerian Access Bank CEO Herbert Wigwe, his wife and son were among those who died in a Friday helicopter crash in California, World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said on Sunday.
The Eurocopter EC 130 carrying six people crashed near Nipton on the edge of the Mojave Desert Preserve at about 10 p.m. on Friday (6:00 GMT on Saturday), CNN cited the Federal Aviation Administration as saying. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said that no survivors were found. The helicopter belonged to the tour company Orbic Air.
“Terribly saddened by the news of the terrible loss of Herbert Wigwe, Group CEO Access Bank, his wife and son as well as Bimbo Ogunbanjo in a helicopter crash. My deepest sympathies and condolences to the Wigwe family, the Ogunbanjo family, Access Bank Group employees and Management and my younger Brother Herbert’s partner Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede,” Okonjo-Iweala said on X.
Access Bank is one of Africa’s largest commercial banks. The group operates in at least 14 countries on the continent, and was also planning to enter the markets of a number of other African states.
