New Delhi, Aug 17 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his long ‘silence’ on sensitive issues like Manipur, and likened him to a relative who comes visiting during happy times and turns away when things get difficult.
“For the last 9 years, the PM has remained silent on sensitive issues whether it is violence-hit Manipur or the China issue,” alleged Kejriwal in the Delhi Assembly.
The Prime Minister had broken his silence on Manipur on July 20, when he condemned the alleged parading of two naked women- over two and half months after ethnic violence broke out in the North Eastern state. Later, he also spoke on the issue during the No-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha.
Kejriwal said, “Today Manipur is burning, there two communities are fighting with each other, women are facing misbehaviour. If the people of the country keep fighting with each other like this then how will India become a ‘Vishwguru’?.”
“People were murdered, people left homeless, and the daughters of Manipur were paraded naked but PM Modi remained silent on these issues. Even a clash happened between Central forces and local police, but the PM was silent on the issue,” said Kejriwal.
Trying to corner the PM, Kejriwal said people don’t remember the PM for every issue but they want to get help from the PM on sensitive issues. “BJP people say Modi ji is the first PM who visited the North East 50 times. He is such a relative who comes every day in happy times and turns away in difficult (sorrow) times,” said the CM.
Speaking on the allegations of sexual harassment levelled by women wrestlers, Kejriwal alleged, “The women wrestlers wanted to hear some words from Modi ji that don’t worry, I will not spare those who do wrong but he remained silent. Finally, the daughters had to go to the Supreme Court to file the FIR.”
“PM (remained) silent on China issue, he remained silent on the killing of jawans by China and PM kept silent on several (other) issues,” alleged Kejriwal.
“The country has to decide whether they want a PM who does business or a PM who protects and respects the country,” said Kejriwal.
