Militancy almost wiped out in J&K : DGP

Srinagar, (UNI) Director General of Police Dilbag Singh on Tuesday said Militancy in Jammu and Kashmir has been almost wiped out and its last few remnants will also be finished.

He said the security forces don’t feel any pride in the killing of any militant.

“In last few years, especially the last five years, the situation has changed a lot. The militancy which wreaked havoc in Jammu and Kashmir over these years is getting wiped out… Militancy in this union territory has been almost wiped out and its last few remnants will also be eliminated,” DGP told reporters in Kupwara district.

He said this year, 10 youth joined militant ranks and out of them six were killed in encounters.

“Last year 110 youth joined militant ranks and this year only 10 and this shows the difference. Security forces don’t take pride in killing local youth who have joined militancy as they are also sons of someone,” the police Chief said while appealing to local youth who have taken up arms to come back into the mainstream.

Singh said that north Kashmir has no resident militant as of now.

“May be there are one or two floating militants roaming here and there. We will eliminate them ,” he said.
