Lucknow, Feb 13 (UNI) The National General Secretary of the Samajwadi Party (SP) and MLC Swami Prasad Maurya, who is already facing heat from different corners for his statements against Hinduism and scriptures, offered his resignation from the post on Tuesday, alleging discrimination and stating that he will continue to strengthen the party.
In a resignation letter posted on micro-blogging site X, Maurya stated, “Ever since I joined SP, I have continuously tried to increase its support base.”
He wrote, “I continued the process of increasing the party’s support base in my own way. In this sequence, I tried to bring back the respect and self-respect of the tribals, Dalits, and backward classes who knowingly or unknowingly got trapped in the BJP’s web and had joined the BJP.”
Maurya said that when he tried, some small and big leaders of the party tried to frustrate his point by claiming that it was a personal statement. “Even when I attacked hypocrisy and ostentation, the same people were again seen saying similar things. I do not regret this either, because in accordance with the instructions of the Indian Constitution, I am raising people with scientific thinking and bringing people to SP,” he said.
He said, “I received about two dozen threats and threats of being shot, killed, beheaded with a sword, chopping of the tongue, nose, ears, and hands, etc. A contract was given to pay different amounts like Rs 51 crore, Rs 51 lakh, Rs 21 lakh, Rs 11 lakh, and Rs 10 lakh. Many deadly attacks also took place; it is a matter of fact that each time he narrowly escaped. On the contrary, many FIRs were lodged against me by those in power, but I continued with my campaign without worrying about my safety.”
The SP leader said, “I was surprised when the senior leader of the party, instead of remaining silent, tried to break the morale of the workers by making a personal statement about Maurya. I could not understand that I am one of the national general secretaries, whose statement becomes a personal statement.”
He said that there were some national general secretaries and leaders whose every statement became a party statement. “Among the office-bearers of the same capacity, how the statements of some become personal and some become party statements is beyond understanding,” he said.
Maurya claimed that due to my efforts, the inclination of tribals, Dalits, and backward people has increased towards SP. “It is surprising that efforts and statements to increase the support base are not of the party but are personal in nature. If there is discrimination even in the post of national general secretary, then I think there is no justification for continuing in such a discriminatory and unimportant post. Therefore, I am resigning from the post of national general secretary of SP; please accept it,” he said.
He said, “I will be ready to strengthen the party even without the post. Thank you very much for the respect, affection, and love given by you.”
It may be noted that recently, SP’s chief whip in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Manoj Kumar Pandey, asked Maurya to abstain from anti-Hindu tirades, after which the latter dubbed him an agent of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Even the senior SP leader and national general secretary, Shivpal Singh Yadav, had often termed Maurya’s statement his personal statement.
