Manohar Lal Khattar resigns as Haryana CM

Chandigarh, Mar 12 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar resigned on Tuesday in a dramatic turn of events over the seat-sharing tussle between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Jannayak Janata Party (BJP-JJP), which is part of the coalition government in Haryana ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

Chief Minister Khattar submitted his resignation to Governor Bandar Dattatreya today. There is also some speculation that Mr. Khattar may contest the Lok Sabha elections in 2024 from the Karnal seat as a BJP candidate.

Significantly, after the 2019 election results, the JJP was running the government with the BJP coalition. The JJP was demanding two seats in the Lok Sabha polls: Hisar (from where BJP MP Brijendra Singh recently quit the party and joined the Congress) and Bhiwani-Mahendragarh. The BJP was not in favor of giving a single seat to the JJP.

The BJP has 41 seats in the 90-member Haryana Assembly.

Meanwhile, the BJP has informed on social media site ‘X’ that Union Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda and National General Secretary Tarun Chugh have reached Chandigarh to attend the legislature party meeting as observers.
