Mamata admitted to Kolkata’s SSKM Hospital after sustaining head injury

Kolkata, Mar 14 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was on Thursday admitted to the state government-run SSKM Hospital here after sustaining a major head injury, official sources said.

The sources said Banerjee was shifted to the Woodburn block of the hospital after she sustained a deep wound on her forehead after a fall at her home in South Kolkata’s Kalighat.

A private television channel claimed that Banerjee “slipped and her forehead hit an almirah in the house.”

Police said the incident happened after Banerjee returned home after unveiling a statue of the late minister Subrata Mukherjee at Gariahat in south Kolkata.

AITC general secretary and nephew of the CM, Abhishek Banerjee has rushed to the hospital.

Arrangements were being made for an MRI and CT scan to assess her health condition.

Sources said a specialist from Apollo Hospital has already been called to see the septuagenarian leader.

“Our chairperson @ Mamata Official sustained a major injury’, the All India Trinamool Congress said in a brief statement along with her photo that showed Banerjee lying on a bed, probably in a hospital, and blood oozing from her head.

“Please keep her in your prayers,” the AITC statement added.
