LG pays tributes to DSP killed in Anantnag gun battle

Srinagar, (UNI) J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday evening paid floral tributes to J&K Police’s Deputy Superintendent of Police Himayun Muzamil Bhat, who was killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Two Army officers Colonel Manpreet Singh, who was Commanding Officer of 19 Rashtriya Rifles and Major Ashish Donchak were also killed in the encounter at Gadole area of Kokernag Anantnag.

Floral tributes were paid to police officer by LG and senior officials during a wreath laying ceremony held in Srinagar.

The Lt Governor also paid tributes to Indian Army’s brave martyrs Col Manpreet Singh and Major Ashish Dhancok.

He said the entire nation stands firmly with their families in this hour of grief.

Later, the Lt Governor met the family members of martyr DySP Humayun Bhat and expressed his deep condolences and stated that the nation is proud of police officers like him.

Himanyun Bhat’s father Ghulam Hassan Bhat retired as inspector general of J&K police in 2018- the year he joined police. He is survived by his wife and two-month-old daughter.

Retired IGP Bhat, also paid floral tributes to his slain son at the wreath ceremony.

“Every loss of life is unfortunate and perpetrators of the criminal act would be brought to justice soon,” he said.

Meanwhile, mainstream politicians have condemned the killing of officers.

The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Party President and Member of the Parliament from Srinagar Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah condemned the killings.

“Such attacks inflict unbearable pain and suffering on our nation and undermine peace and stability in the area,” the two leaders said in a statement.

Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti said there is no place for such abominable acts of violence.

BJP JK spokesman Altaf Thakur said security forces are committed to root out terror from JK soil.

“Those behind the killing of today’s heroes won’t be spared,” he said while urging top army officials and police to track down killers.

Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference President Sajad Lone said this is indeed a very sad day

“Their sacrifice reminds us of the immense challenges and risks that our security forces and police personnel face in safeguarding the peace and security of the region,” he said.

Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari said the entire nation mourns the loss of these valiant heroes who laid down their lives while courageously facing terrorists.

“I urge our security agencies to swiftly bring these terrorists to justice,” he said.

CPI(M) leader M Y Tarigami extended heartfelt condolences to the families of those officers who made ultimate sacrifices in the line of duty in Kokernag area of Anantnag.
