Amethi (UP), May 3 (UNI) Congress candidate and close confidant of Gaandhi family Kishori Lal Sharma on Friday filed his nomination from the high profile Amethi parliamentary constituency.
Sharma, who candidature was announced on Friday morning itself, filed his nomination at around 12.30 pm. Although he had come to Amethi on Thursday itself and had also taken permission for the road show from the administration, but there were speculations that former Congress president Rahul Gandhi will challenge Bharatiya Janata Party BJP candidate and sitting MP Smriti Irani.
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who reached Amethi this afternoon, appealed to the people of Amethi for the victory of Mr. Sharma. She along with former Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot took out a road show with the Congress candidate before nomination.
During the roadshow Priyanka said that her party wants to bring back the politics of truth and service. “While Rahul Gandhi will contest from Rae Bareli, KL Sharma, who you know for the last 40 years, will contest from Amethi,” she said.
She said, “He knows every nook and corner of Amethi and he also knows about the needs and problems of Amethi. He has served you people for 40 years. We will fight the election shoulder to shoulder and I hope that you will make him victorious.”
The Congress leader said that her party wants to bring back the politics of truth and service. “I will come back on May 6 and will stay here till the end. While the other candidates contest on the basis of money power, we will contest the poll on the power of the public. We will contest elections for you so that your development takes place. We want to give a message to the country that we want politics of service,” she said.
Earlier, Priyanka directly reached Amethi from Fursatganj and participated in the roadshow of KL Sharma.
