Kashmir grips in freezing temperature: Met

Srinagar, Feb 7 (UNI) Kashmir valley continued to grip in freezing temperatures, with Pahalgam recording a low of -10.8°C and Gulmarg -10.0°C on Wednesday, officials said.

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar said Kashmir Valley remained gripped under sub-freezing temperatures in view of significant snow accumulation over hilly areas that dropped the minimum temperature over many stations considerably.

The MeT office said the weather will remain dry till February 17, with occasionally cloudy evenings during February 14, while during February 18–20 there is a possibility of light snow and rain over J&K.

Although there was a slight improvement in night temperature at Pahalgam in south Kashmir, it was still 4.6°C below normal (-6.2°C), while the ski resort of Gulmarg also recorded 3.3°C below normal (-6.7°C) on Wednesday.

Srinagar recorded a minimum of -2.0°C against the -2.4°C recorded the previous night. It was 1.6°C below normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during this period of the season.

Srinagar recorded a maximum of 8.7 °C, which was 2.0°C below the normal of 9.2°C on the previous day.

Qazigund had a low of -3.2°C against the -2.0°C recorded a day ago, and Kokernag recorded a minimum of -4.3°C against the -2.4°C recorded the previous night.

Kupwara had a low of -3.3°C against the -3.4°C recorded the previous night. It was 1.3°C below normal for the frontier Kashmir district of north Kashmir, the MeT office said.
