Karnataka : Our 5Gs aren’t schemes, but governance model: Rahul

Mysuru, Aug 30 (UNI) Launching Gruha Lakshmi Yojana scheme in Karnataka, former AICC President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said the 5 Guarantees (5Gs) that the ruling party promised ahead of assembly election are not mere schemes, but governance model.

He alleged that the central government works for billionaires, but it should work for the poor and the weak.

“All the five guarantees, except one are meant for the women. There is a deep idea behind this. During my Bharat Jodo Yatra, I spoke to many women and I understood that they were affected by “inflation”. It is the women that “inflation” hits them the most. I understood that the women of Karnataka are the foundation of this state,” Rahul told reporters here.

“There is a fad in vogue today in India. The government in Delhi (central government) works for billionaires. We think that the government should work for the poor and the weak,” he added.

The Congress government led by Siddaramaiah launched the Gruha Lakshmi Yojana scheme in the presence of Party President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.

Under this scheme, the women head of BPL family will get a help of Rs 2,000 directly into their bank accounts. “We promised 5 guarantees. We do what we say,” Gandhi said.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the five schemes will cost the state exchequer approximately Rs 50,000 crore every year.

Five guarantees are:

1) 200 units of free power to all households (Gruha Jyoti)
2) Rs 2,000 monthly assistance to the woman head of every family (Gruhalaxmi)
3) 10 kg of rice free to every member of a BPL household (Anna Bhagya)
4) Rs 3,000 every month for unemployed graduate youth and Rs 1,500 for unemployed diploma holders (both in the age group of 18-25) for two years (Yuva Nidhi)
5) Free travel for women in public transport buses (Uchita Prayana).
