J&K: LeT militant gunned down in Pulwama

Srinagar, Apr 11 (UNI) Security forces gunned down a local Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) TRF militant in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama District on Thursday.

Police said acting on specific information regarding the presence of a terrorist, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, Army’s 53RR & 183Bn of CRPF in the village Frassipora area of Pulwama early Thursday.

“As the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorist fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter”, police said.

“In the ensuing encounter, a terrorist was neutralised and his body retrieved from the site”, they added.

The terrorist was later identified as Danish Sheikh a resident of Srinagar of proscribed terror outfit LeT/TRF.

Arms, ammunition and incriminating materials were recovered from him.

In this regard, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and an investigation has been initiated.

Police have urged the people to cooperate till the area at the encounter site is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials, if any, police added.
