JDS MLA HD Revanna released on bail in kidnapping case

Bengaluru, May 14 (UNI) Holenarasipura JDS MLA HD Revanna, entangled in a high-profile kidnapping case associated with an ‘obscene video’ scandal, was released from Parappana Agrahara Jail on Tuesday after being granted conditional bail by a special court on Monday.

Revanna’s release came with a bail bond set at Rs 5 lakh. The defense argued in court that the woman allegedly kidnapped had not mentioned Revanna in her initial statements to the police or magistrate. The court noted that while the victim’s statements implicated Revanna’s son, Prajwal, in sexual assault, they did not directly accuse Revanna of kidnapping.

Revanna was arrested on May 4 by SIT officials and had been in judicial custody until May 14. The arrest stemmed from allegations made at Bengaluru’s KR Nagar police station.

The Karnataka government has formed an SIT to delve into the sexual harassment and criminal intimidation allegations against Revanna and his son Prajwal. This investigation was prompted by a complaint from a former household employee. Revanna and his associate Babanna are listed as the primary accused in the FIR filed by the KR Nagar police.

Revanna has vehemently denied the charges, calling them a “political conspiracy” against him, and emphasised his unblemished four-decade political career. Prajwal, who represents Hassan in Parliament and is the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, remains under scrutiny. Reports suggest he reportedly is in Germany, leading to a global Blue Corner notice issued for his location.

HD Kumaraswamy, Revanna’s younger brother, is also embroiled in the complex situation.

The scandal continues to unfold as the SIT investigates the multiple allegations, bringing intense scrutiny to the political family.
