Israeli military says about 90 Hamas fighters killed in area of Shifa hospital in Gaza

Gaza, (UNI) The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Wednesday it had eliminated about 90 Hamas fighters and detained nearly 460 suspects for questioning during its raid on the Shifa hospital in the north of Gaza City.

On Monday night, the IDF announced an operation in the area of ​​the Shifa hospital in Gaza City, saying it was allegedly used by senior Hamas members for “terrorist” activities. The Israeli forces also called on Gazans to evacuate areas near the hospital to the south of the Palestinian enclave.

“IDF … forces are continuing to conduct a precise operation against terrorists in the area of the Shifa hospital … Thus far, the troops have killed approximately 90 terrorists in the area … questioned over 300 suspects at the compound, and an additional 160 suspects have been transferred to Israeli territory for further questioning,” the Israeli military said on Telegram.

Israeli soldiers operating in the area are “preventing harm to civilians, patients, medical teams and medical equipment,” the IDF added.

Furthermore, Israeli troops continue operations in various parts of the Palestinian enclave to eliminate Hamas’ fighters and infrastructure facilities, with at least six members of the movement killed in the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza over the past 24 hours and another three in the city of Khan Yunis in the south, the IDF also said.

Last October, Palestinian movement Hamas launched a large-scale rocket attack against Israel from the Gaza Strip and breached the border, killing 1,200 people and abducting around 240 others. Israel launched retaliatory strikes, ordered a complete blockade of Gaza, and started a ground incursion into the Palestinian enclave with the declared goal of eliminating Hamas fighters and rescuing the hostages. Over 31,900 people have been killed so far in the Gaza Strip, local authorities said.
