Iraqi PM offers condolences to French president over death of French soldier in Iraq

Baghdad, Aug 30 (UNI) Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani extended on Tuesday condolences to French President Emmanuel Macron over the death of a French soldier, who was killed during a joint military operation between Iraqi and French forces against the Islamic State (IS) group in Iraq.

According to an official statement from al-Sudani’s media office, al-Sudani received a phone call on Tuesday evening from Macron, during which they also discussed bilateral ties and ways to develop economic, cultural, and security relations, as well as the latest regional and international developments.

Moreover, they talked about the official visit of the French president to Baghdad in the near future, the statement added, without revealing the exact time of the visit.

According to French media reports, a French military instructor was killed in Iraq on Aug. 21, while assisting the Iraqi army in an operation against the IS.
