Hydraulic lift collapses during celebrations

Bhopal: A municipal corporation’s hydraulic lift collapsed during the Maharana Pratap Jayanti celebrations in Bhopal, resulting in injuries to Congress councilor Jitendra Singh Rajput from Ward 66 and his uncle. The incident took place on Sunday afternoon as members of the Kshatriya community assembled at the MP Nagar intersection to adorn the statue of Maharana Pratap, utilizing the hydraulic lift provided by the municipal corporation.

Councilor Jitendra Singh Rajput and his uncle Rishi Singh Rajput were aboard the lift, reaching a height of 20 feet when the lift’s welding gave way, causing it to collapse. Councilor Jitendra Singh sustained a leg fracture, and his uncle also suffered injuries. Jitendra Singh was subsequently admitted to Anant Shree Hospital in Indrapuri.

Reportedly, the victims, affiliated with the Rajput Samaj Pragati Mandal, were on their way to garland Maharana Pratap’s statue when the hydraulic lift malfunctioned, resulting in injuries to those on board. Blaming the Bhopal Municipality for the incident, the injured persons called for an investigation into the matter.

They said in light of this incident, it is essential to conduct thorough inspections of all municipal corporation equipment, including hydraulic lifts and JCB machines, to ensure they possess fitness certificates and up-to-date maintenance records. The councilor highlighted that he had previously raised concerns regarding maintenance issues with the municipal corporation, emphasizing a significant lapse in action. He urged for the suspension of responsible officers and a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
