New Delhi, May 29 (UNI) Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions prevailing over Northwest and Central India are expected to reduce gradually from Thursday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday.
According to IMD, heatwave to severe heatwave conditions is very likely in most parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh today and gradual reduction thereafter. Heatwave conditions is likely to continue in isolated pockets of these areas till June 1st.
Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Jammu division and Himachal Pradesh will also witness heatwave to severe heatwave conditions till tomorrow, the IMD said.
A fresh disturbance is likely to affect Northwest region, under its influence isolated to scattered light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is very likely over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan and Muzaffarabad till June 2, it added.
The weather department has also forecast a gradual fall in maximum temperatures by 3-4°C over Northwest and Central India during the next 3-4 days.
Yesterday, the maximum temperatures were in the range of 46-50°C in many parts of Northwest India; 42-46°C in many parts of West, Central & East India. These were above normal by 3- 6°C over many parts of Northwest India and in some parts of Central and West India, the IMD said.
On hot and humid weather, the IMD said these conditions are very likely to prevail over isolated pockets of Konkan and Goa for the next two days.
The MeT department further said the conditions are continue to become favourable for Monsoon onset over Kerala during the next 24 hours and advance of monsoon over some parts of Northeastern States during the same period.
