Rajgarh: A four-year-old girl named Mahi, who had fallen into a borewell in Rajgarh district, lost her life at a Bhopal hospital on Wednesday, a few hours after her successful rescue. Despite being retrieved around 2.45 am and initially taken to the Civil Hospital at Pachore, Mahi’s condition worsened during transit. Subsequently, she was transferred to the state-run Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal, where she succumbed to her injuries around 6 am, as confirmed by Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Kiran Wadia. Post-autopsy, the body will be handed over to the bereaved family.
The incident unfolded when Mahi accidentally fell into an open borewell in a field on Tuesday evening. A dedicated team of experts conducted a meticulous rescue operation, digging a parallel pit to a depth of approximately 25 feet. Mahi, trapped at 22 feet, was successfully extricated after the connection of the two pits. Following the rescue, she was promptly transported to the hospital. The heartbreaking event occurred in Pipliya Rasoda village, falling under the jurisdiction of Boda police station.
Rajgarh Superintendent of Police Dharmaraj Meena highlighted the coordinated efforts, mentioning the involvement of the State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF) and the arrangements made for providing oxygen inside the borewell shaft. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had earlier directed officials to dispatch teams from SDERF and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to the site, urging the district administration to actively contribute to the rescue operation.
