Former TN Minister Indira Kumari passes away

Chennai, Apr 16 (UNI) Former Tamil Nadu Minister Ms R.Indira Kumari, who had served in the late AIADMK leader J.Jayalalithaa Cabinet, before joining the DMK, passed away on Monday evening following a heart attack.

She had served as the Social Welfare Minister between 1991 and 1996 during the AIADMK regime headed by Ms Jayalalithaa.

She had underwent a heart surgery in private hospital. But suddenly she suffered heart attack and passed away.

She was convicted by a Special Court in 2021 to five years imprisonment in a Rs 15.45 lakh corruption case relating to floating two trusts for running a special school for hearing impaired children and an institution for orthopedically handicapped children by another organisation. Her husband was also convicted in the case.

After she was removed form the AIADMK, she had joined the DMK in 2006 and made the Literary Wing leader.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M.K.Stalin condoled her death.

In a message, he recalled her contributions as a Minister and said her death was a big loss to the DMK and also to the Literary world.
