Jagdalpur, April 16 (UNI) At least 29 Naxalites were killed and three soldiers injured on Tuesday in an encounter between police and the red ultras in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh, police said here.
Police have seized four AK-47 rifles and other weapons from the spot.
Kanker district police force, Special Task Force, and Border Security Force personnel, out on patrol, came face-to-face with the Naxalites near Binagunda and Coronar in a forest, about 15 kilometres from the police station. The encounter during this period lasted over an hour.
Twenty nine Naxalites were killed in this encounter. An inspector and two soldiers included in the patrolling team were injured.
The injured have been sent to the state capital, Raipur, for better treatment. Four AK-47 rifles, INSAS and other rifles, and a large quantity of explosive material have been recovered from the spot. Naxalite commander Shankar Rao, who had a reward of Rs 25 lakh on his head, has also been killed in the encounter.
