New Delhi, Aug 12 (UNI) The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) received over 6.30 lakh calls on its 181 Women Helpline over the past one year and it also received over 11 thousand cases from the other states.
According to DCW data, from July 2022 to June 2023, it received 6,30,288 cases on its 181 Women Helpline number through which 92,004 cases were registered.
The cases of Domestic Violence tops the chart with 38,342 following by 9,516 cases of conflict with neighbours, 5,895 cases of rape and sexual harassment, 3,647 cases of POCSO, 4229 cases of kidnapping, and 3,558 cases of Cyber Crime. The Commission also received 1,552 missing complaints on its helpline number, DCW said in a statement.
Further, the Commission received 2,278 cases of dowry harassment, 790 of medical negligence, 156 of sex racket, 40 of trafficking, 69 of child marriage, 67 of Sexual harassment at workplace, 66 of child labour, 63 of illegal liquor, drugs, 54 of honor killing, and many more, it said.
DCW also received 1319 service related matters, 421 of property disputes, 354 of police harassment, 348 requests of shelter homes, 298 cases of dangerous attack on women, and 235 cases of theft, the statement said.
Most cases 2976 were recorded from Delhi’s Narela area, followed by 1651 from Bhalswa Dairy, 1523 from Burari, 1371 from Kalyanpuri and 1221 from Jahangirpuri area.
The top 5 areas from where cases of rape and sexual harassment have been received are 175 cases from Burari, 167 from Narela, 105 from Govindpuri, 89 from Uttam Nagar and 86 from Sultanpuri area, it stated.
With respect to cases of POCSO received at 181 Helpline, top 5 areas are 141 from Narela, 91 from Bhalswa Dairy, 71 from Samaipur Badli, 68 from Prem Nagar and 66 from Nihal Vihar.
There were 209 cases of kidnapping from Narela, followed by 106 from Bhalaswa Dairy, 75 from Burari, 71 from Bawana, and 63 from Sangam Vihar. Further, most cases of domestic violence were received from Kalyanpuri 769, followed by Burari 709 cases, Ranhola 685 cases, Bhalaswa Dairy 673 cases, and Narela 590 cases.
The Commission received most cases 41.5 per cent (38,140) from the woman of age group of 21-31 years, this followed by 21.8 per cent (20,058) from age group 31-40, 18.41 per cent (16,939) from 11-20 ages and 7.26 per cent (6,686) from of 41-50 ages.
DCW, chairperson, Swati Maliwal said, “Over the past 7 years, we have received 40 lakh calls and in one year, we catered over 6.3 lakh calls on Helpline and over 92000 cases were registered on these calls. We will be sending this report to the central and state government and seek their cooperation in addressing rising crimes against women and girls in the capital.”
