Rainfall continued in the capital from around 4 pm till late night on Sunday. This not only provided relief from the heat and humidity, but also increased the problems of the people. At the same time, the Municipal Corporation’s claims of cleaning drains were also exposed.

There is water-logging in more than 50 areas of the city, including Kolar, Hoshangabad Road, Chhola, Karond, Ashoka Garden, Banganga, Shiv Nagar, Subhash Nagar, Mandakani, Bawadiya Kala. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rain.

According to the information, there are 789 small and big drains in Bhopal. Which wreak havoc every year during the rains. Like every year, this time too the corporation has been running a drain cleaning campaign for the last one month. It is claimed that 80 percent of the drains in 21 zones have been cleaned. But this claim was lost in the rain on Saturday. Alpana intersection on Hamidia Road was flooded with about two feet of water. Due to which the movement of vehicles from the railway station platform number-6 was completely stopped. There was about three feet of water here. Whereas due to one and a half to two feet of water logging in front of the petrol pump on Hamidia Road, vehicles got stuck and there was a jam, which the police had to struggle a lot to clear.

The road leading from Bhopal Talkies to Laxmi Talkies was also closed due to one to one and a half feet of water logging. Same was the condition of Sindhi Colony intersection. There was about two feet of water here. Due to which a traffic jam was created on Berasia Road.

Water logging occurred in these areas also

Apart from this, Chunabhatti Square, Alpana Tiraha, Israni Market Tiraha, in front of BHEL factory on Raisen Road, Jyoti Talkies intersection, in front of Administration Academy, Hamidia Parallel Road, in front of Jehangirabad Ward Office, Shivaji Nagar, Habibganj including DIG Bungalow, Chhola, Nishatpura. There was a traffic jam due to water filling in Rachna Nagar and Subhash Nagar under bridge.

Roads turn into ponds within minutes

Due to blockage of the drainage system, the city’s roads turned into ponds within a few minutes due to heavy rains. At many places there was half to two feet of water. Even on the roads which were not filled with water, the roads got soaked due to the mud flowing from the nearby choke drains.
