Cong and VCK cadres stage black flag protests against PM Modi’s meditation in TN

Dindigul (Tamil Nadu), May 30 (UNI) Cadres of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) on Thursday staged black flag protests in Southern districts of the State against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Vivekananda Rock Memorial at Kanyakumari for meditation.

In Tirunelveli, a large number of Congress men assembled at the party office and staged a black flag demonstration.

District Congress Committee President K.Sankarapandian, who led the protest, demanded the Election Commission of India not to allow Modi’s meditation programme as it violates the model code of conduct (MCC).

Police detained more than 20 Congress men for staging a black flag demonstration without getting police permission in Dindigul city.

In Madurai, the activists of VCK also staged a black flag protest at Periyar bus stand.

The opposition parties, including the Congress, DMK, Trinamool Congress, CPM, CPI strongly opposed the PM’s meditation as it would violate the MCC.

Meanwhile, Modi arrived at Kanyakumari on Thursday evening for a 45-hour long meditation in Vivekananda Rock Memorial at mid sea, where Swami Vivekananda meditated for three days and nights until he attained “enlightenment.”
