Chhattisgarh: 12 Naxals killed in encounter in Bijapur

Bijapur, May 10 (UNI) Twelve Naxalites were killed and two security force personnel injured in an ongoing encounter in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Friday, a top police officer said.

Senior police officials are monitoring the action from a nearby camp. The search is still going on.

Kamlochan Kashyap, Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Bastar region, said based on intelligence inputs, a joint operation was launched this morning by roping in security personnel from three districts – Dantewada, Bijapur, and Sukma – in the forests of Pida, 55 km from Bijapur district headquarters.

More than 12 hundred soldiers, including the district’s reserve police force, Special Task Force, personnel of Central Reserve Police Force’s elite anti-Maoist Combat Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) have surrounded the area.

Kashyap said that till now, twelve bodies of Naxalites have been recovered. A large quantity of arms and weapons have also been found.

Senior police officers are commanding the operation from the nearby central security force’s camp.

Two security force personnel have also been injured in the encounter.
