CBI arrests three persons, including 2 DGFT officials in alleged bribery case

New Delhi, Sep 6 (UNI) Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested three persons, including two officials of Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) in an alleged bribery case.

A case was registered against a Joint Director General of Foreign Trade posted at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, Section Head working in the office of JDGFT at Regional Authority of DGFT and Managing Director of private company based at Hyderabad.

It was alleged that the said public servants were collecting huge amounts of bribes from the consultants for issuing new Import Export Certificates as well as for its renewals and other related licenses through Consultants/conduits, a CBI statement said.

CBI laid a trap and apprehended Joint Director General of Foreign Trade for allegedly demanding and collecting a bribe of Rs 4 lakh and Section Head for allegedly collecting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from Managing Director of private company based at Hyderabad.

The alleged briber giver (MD of said private company) was also apprehended, the probe agency said.

Searches were conducted at the premises of the accused including at Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad and Bangalore which led to recovery of incriminating documents, the statement added.
