Cal HC directs ED to remove its IO

Kolkata, Sep 30 (UNI) Calcutta High Court has directed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for the removal of its Investigation Officer (IO) probing the alleged teachers’ recruitment irregularities in the West Bengal government sponsored schools across the state, court sources confirmed on Saturday.

Single-bench judge Justice Amrita Sinha in her order on Friday asked ED’s top official to remove its IO Mithilesh Kumar Mishra, the Assistant Director, from the Special Investigating Team (SIT) with immediate effect.

The judge also specifically directed the central probe agency to ensure its investigation properly in the backdrop of TMC general secretary

Abhishek Banerjee’ s statement saying he would lead a party’s agitational programme in New Delhi on October 2 and 3, 2023.

The ED probing the alleged schools job scandal following a Calcutta high court order summoned Banerjee, who is also the CEO of Leaps & Bounds Pvt Ltd, which is under the scanner of the investigation.

All India Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Friday said he will be in New Delhi on October 2 and 3 to lead the party workers against alleged deprivation of the BJP led Central government for not releasing state funds for various central schemes.

* Stop me if you can” Banerjee, who is also the nephew of chief minister Mamata Banerjee, said on his X (twitter) on Friday.

Justice Amrita Sinha on Friday while directing the ED to immediately relieve Mishra from the SIT, also opined that the IO appeared to not have the competence to handle such a case of “huge magnitude”.

The Judge ordered the ED director to appoint someone who can handle such an investigation efficiently.

The court several times warned the central probe agency to expedite the investigation and not take a long time to drag the probe.

Sources said the IO, Mishra, had personally appeared during the hearing last week and the court had expressed dissatisfaction of his argument in the case.
