BJP MLA Nand Kishore Yadav ‘unanimously’ elected as speaker of Bihar Assembly

Patna, Feb 15 (UNI) Veteran BJP MLA Nand Kishore Yadav was ‘unanimously’ elected as the Speaker of Bihar state legislative assembly here on Thursday.

Deputy Speaker Maheshwar Hajari, who had initiated the process of election in the house, announced the election of Yadav for the post.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who is also the leader of the house, and the leader of the opposition in the assembly Tejaswi Prasad Yadav escorted Nand Kishore Yadav to the Speaker’s chair after his election.

Earlier Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary proposed the name of Nand Kishore Yadav for the post which was seconded by Bihar Minister Shrawan Kumar.

Yadav expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, leader of the house and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, leader of the opposition Tejaswi Prasad Yadav and the entire house for unanimously electing him to the post of the speaker.

Yadav assured to run the house in accordance with the laid rules adopted in 1961 and enacted in 1966.

Equating the rules and regulations of the house and the Indian Constitution with that of “Geeta”, the Epic, Yadav said that he would abide by it without considering political affiliations and would protect the dignity of the members.

He also appreciated the conduct of the members on the floor of the house during the confidence motion and trust vote on February 12.

The Speaker appealed to the members to raise their issues in accordance with the laid rules and regulations for adequate solution of the problems. Struggle and discussions are two different things and should not be intermingled.

Yadav also suggested the new members to study not only the rules and regulations but also the policies of the government for removing the obstructions.

He assured to be impartial while running the house and expected the members of both ruling and opposition to cooperate in maintaining harmony.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar congratulating Nand Kishore Yadav for his unanimous election said that the entire house including the ruling party and the opposition was pleased with his election for the post of the speaker.

Kumar also extended his gratitude towards the opposition for the unanimous election of the speaker and hoped that the latter would listen to every side and discharge his responsibilities with the experience of his long parliamentary stint.

Tejaswi Yadav congratulated the Speaker on behalf of his party members and leader of his party Lalu Prasad Yadav and expected that he would be impartial in discharging his responsibilities while running the house.

He said the entire house would be benefited by the long parliamentary stint and experience of the speaker.

The Leader of the Opposition assured to extend his party’s members support in smooth running of the house and in taking up the issues of common people.

Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary congratulated Yadav and said that it was a matter of pride for the house that a person with vast experience of different walks of life has been seated on the post.

Exhibiting their confidence in Yadav, the Prime Minister, Union Home minister and party leaders have entrusted the major responsibility to him, Chaudhary added and hoped that he would be impartial in running the house.

Another Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha said that the house will be benefited with the experience of Yadav in various fields including government, administration and organisation and he expect him to discharge the responsibilities meticulously using his vast experience and cooperate in the transformation of Bihar.

Sinha extended his gratitude towards the Chief < inister and the leader of the opposition for electing Yadav as the Speaker.

Parliamentary affairs minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary while congratulating Yadav for his unanimous election outlined his initiative and his understanding of the laid rules and regulations of the house which were helpful of making several amendments in the rules and regulations.

Chaudhary said that maintaining the confidence of the entire house including ruling and opposition members was a major challenge before the speaker which he hoped that Yadav would discharge smoothly.

Deputy Speaker Maheshwar Hajari said that the speaker is the custodian of the house and hoped that Yadav would easily maintain the dignity of the house by protecting the respect of both ruling and opposition members.

Later the house was adjourned till 11 am on February 19.
