Bengal CM attacks C V Ananda Bose, says governor holding back all bills

Kolkata, (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday attacked Governor C V Ananda Bose charging him with interfering in the state administration like appointing interim Vice Chancellors without consulting the democratically elected government and alleged he is holding back all bills passed by the state assembly.

Banerjee, while addressing a function to mark the Teachers Day at Dhanadhanna Stadium in the city, pointed out that the governor has been engaged in appointing interim vice-chancellors without consulting the concerned Ministry and directed the state-owned universities not to hear any directive from any quarter except her appointed VCs.

This is the direct attack on the state administration by the governor to paralyse the state administration,” the Chief Minister alleged and threatened to block the salary of the VCs.

She also said if the situation demanded she would not hesitate to sit on dharna outside the Raj Bhavan.

“The governor’s actions are an attempt to paralyse state administration. He cannot hold back finance bills,” Mamata said.

The Chief Minister also alleged that the Governor was interfering in the functioning of schools, colleges and universities in the state.

She said the state exchequer gives salary to the VCs and not the governor, who has been going on appointing the interim VCs of the state universities.

Mamata even pointed out that a former Chief Justice was appointed as the interim VS of a University (Rabindra Bharati).

On Sunday the Governor appointed interim VCs to as many as 16 varsities, including the Presidency University.

“If the Governor continues to interfere in the functioning of universities, we will block the funds,” Banerjee said.
