Azam, family gets bail in dual birth certificate case, conviction stayed

Prayagraj, May 24 (UNI) In a partial relief to Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Mohammad Azam Khan, his wife and former MP Tazeen Fatima and ex-MLA son Abdullah Azam the Allahabad High Court on Friday granted them nail in the fake birth certificate case and stayed their conviction, prosecution sources here.

Prosecution sources said that in the year 2019 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Rampur, Akash Saxena had lodged a case of having two birth certificates in Ganj police station of Rampur. On October 18, 2023, the Special (MP/MLA) court of Rampur sentenced Azam, Tazeen Fatima and Abdullah to 7 years each in the two birth certificate case.

Sources said that Azam Khan, Tazeen and Abdullah had filed a petition in the Rampur sessions court against the conviction, but it was rejected. After the petition was rejected by the sessions court, a criminal revision petition was filed in Allahabad High Court.

During the hearing, the court had asked the state government to present its side. After hearing the arguments of both the sides, the single bench of Judge Sanjay Kumar Singh reserved the verdict on May 14. The verdict was pronounced on Friday.

Complainant Akash Saxena’s lawyer Sharad Sharma said that all three have got bail.
