August 5, 2019, was day of betrayal for people of J&K: Omar

Srinagar, May 18 (UNI) National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Saturday said that August 5, 2019, was the day of betrayal for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“The centre has been saying there was nothing in Article 370, but why did they abrogate it”, Omar told media persons in the Magam area of Budgam district on Saturday.

Omar who is contesting from the Baramulla Lok Sabha seat said Peoples Conference Chairman Sajad Lone till yesterday was claiming his win on the seat now has changed his stance and today they are talking about defeating Omar Abdullah.

“This reflects that they all are following the directions of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) only to target the National Conference”, Omar alleged.

Asked if the National Conference was getting benefits from the poll boycott call earlier, Omar said “We were winning the elections and our rivals had to give any excuse for their loss… they were saying that NC gets credit for the poll boycott. But today they will say the voter turnout was high and NC was benefitted”.

The former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister said “if the voter turnout is high this time the benefit of that would also go to the National Conference…what would I say”.
