Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh to hold BJP rallies separately in Darjeeling

Darjeeling, Apr 21 (UNI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh are scheduled to hold BJP rallies separately in West Bengal’s Darjeeling and elsewhere in northern districts of the state on Sunday.

Darjeeling, along with Balurghat and Raiganj in South Dinajpur and North Dinajpur go to the second phase election on April 26.

Shah, the deputy of BJP’s campaign face, is expected to canvas for sitting Darjeeling MP Raju Bista, whilst his Union Cabinet colleague would address separately for Bista later on Sunday.

Darjeeling segment, comprising many communities of Mongoloid origins and aboriginal adivasis, has been a bastion for the saffron brigade since 2009.

The majority of the voters are Gorkhas, the brave sons of India.

Shah held his last election rally on March 10 at Balurghat for party candidates and sitting MP Sukanta Majumdar, also the state president, and new nominee Kartik Pal for Raiganj.

Rajnath Singh is expected to hold rallies for two other constituencies – Malda Uttar and Murshidabad.

Both these constituencies are scheduled for voting in the third phase.

In the first phase poll on April 19, Bengal witnessed 81.91 per cent turnout among the 5.6 million voters for three Lok Sabha seats – Cooch Behar, Alipurduar (ST) and Jalpaiguri (SC) in the northernmost districts of the state.
