After rumors spread on social media about extension of one month tenure of Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh Bains, Chief Electoral Officer Anupam Rajan had to come forward for clarification in this matter. In the message issued to the media, he has said that fake news is going viral on social media.
It is being said that the Election Commission has given an extension of one month to Chief Secretary Bains. He said that the Election Commission has clarified that no such approval has been given by the Election Commission.
The tenure of Chief Secretary Bains is ending on November 29 this month and after this, before the counting of votes on December 3, after the permission of the Election Commission, the responsibility of Chief Secretary has to be handed over to someone. In this matter, no approval has been given yet from the Election Commission as to who will be the next Chief Secretary of the state. However, it is being discussed in administrative circles that a panel of three names has been sent to the Commission for this post. It is also being said that the government has already sent a proposal for extension to Chief Secretary Bains. In both the situations, no decision has been taken by the Commission yet. There is also discussion in the ministry that this is the first time that the CS of any state is retiring under the code of conduct. It is being told that the government is also deliberating on this matter.
Officers posted in the state will get a chance
Here the sources of the Commission say that whatever name will be decided for the post of Chief Secretary, it will be one of the names of ACS level officers posted in Madhya Pradesh. Since the new government will be formed after December 3 and the Chief Minister will appoint the Chief Secretary of his choice, the Commission will conduct the election work by handing over the responsibility of the election arrangements to an officer posted in MP. According to seniority, the name of IAS Veera Rana is being mentioned at the forefront.
