80 pc decline seen in terror-recruitments, 76 terrorists neutralised in 2023: J&K DGP

Jammu, Dec 30 (UNI) Sharing achievements of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Director General of Police, R R Swain on Saturday said that 80 percent decline has been seen in the terror recruitments while 76 terrorists including 55 foreigners were neutralised in an ending year 2023.

Addressing an annual yearender presser here this evening, DGP Swain told reporters that terror recruitment has witnessed 80 percent decline due to joint efforts of police and other security agencies.

“As many as 113 terrorists from various outfits have been neutralized in anti-terror operations in 2023,” said the DGP adding that 31 active local terrorists are identified across Jammu and Kashmir that included four in Kishtwar district of Jammu zone.

The J&K Police Chief stated that two separatist organizations namely Democratic Freedom Party led by Shabir Shah and Muslim League led by Masarat Alam have been banned under UAPA this year.

He further said that a total of 76 terrorists including 55 foreigners, were neutralised this year while 291 associates of terrorists were arrested and 201 overground workers (OGWs) were booked.

“As many as 89 terrorist modules were busted and 18 terrorist hideouts were unearthed in Jammu and Kashmir while 99 properties worth more than Rs 170 crore and 68 bank accounts were also frozen,” he said.

He also said that the hartal calls (shutdown) this year has also declined (almost zero) a lot this year while organised hartal calls are also nil and the credit goes to the public, who did not respond to these calls and always voted for peace and development.

DGP Swain said that while fighting terrorism, 14 J&K Police were martyred in 2022 but in 2023, the casualty was very less as four police personnel including one DSP, inspector and two constables.

“Our war is not yet over and it is not only against those who pick up guns but all those who support terror related activities either it is terror funding, recruitment, logistic support etc,” he added.

Swain added that more than 8000 social media accounts indulged in mis-campaign were identified and those were being operated from within the country, action was initiated.

The top cop was flanked by senior police officers in the press conference.
