7 killed in road accident in Nepal

Kathmandu, Aug 24 (UNI) Seven people were killed and 19 injured on Thursday morning after a passenger bus overturned in Bara district in central Nepal, a police officer said.

The bus was carrying Indian pilgrims from Kathmandu to Janakpur, a religious site in Dhanusha district when it veered off the highway.

“Six among the deceased are Indians and one is Nepali,” Dadhiram Subedi, deputy superintendent of Nepal Police, told Xinhua.

The preliminary investigation found overspeeding to be the primary cause of the fatal accident, Subedi said, noting the injured were receiving treatment at a local hospital.

The police arrested the driver and supporting staff of the bus which was carrying 27 pilgrims, who were mostly from Rajasthan state in northern India.

Hundreds of people in Nepal lose lives in traffic accidents each year due to poor road conditions and over speeding.
