2 accused absconding for two years in pangolin smuggling arrested

Bhopal: State Tiger Strike Force Madhya Pradesh Regional Unit Jabalpur, Forest Division South Seoni, Forest Division South Balaghat and Police Station Lanji jointly cordoned off and arrested Aamir Hussain, resident of Silchar District Cachar Assam and Amulya Mandal District Cooch Behar West Bengal from Kachari Chowk Seoni. .

A case was registered against the said accused under various sections of Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972 in Forest Division South Balaghat, Forest Crime Case No. 11614/20 dated 20 September 2014, in relation to hunting of wild animal pangolin and smuggling of its parts. The said accused were absconding for the last 2 years and a permanent arrest warrant was issued against them by the Honorable Judicial Magistrate First Class Lanji District Balaghat.

Accused came near Seoni

Continuous efforts were being made to catch them by the State Tiger Strike Force. State Tiger Strike Force Madhya Pradesh received information from the informer on 8 May 2014 that the above two accused had come to Madhya Pradesh around Seoni.

The joint team cordoned off the area near Kachari Chowk and as per the above description, the suspicious person was stopped and interrogated. He revealed his name as Aamir Hussain and Amulya Mandal, who were arrested and handed over to the local police. The accused will be produced before the Honorable Judicial Magistrate First Class, Lanji, District Balaghat.

Pangolin scales are purchased by these smugglers mainly from Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and sold to traders from Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya, where the traders send them to China via Myanmar (Burma).

International gang exposed

STSF has exposed an inter-state and international gang involved in smuggling of parts of rare species of wild animal, Pangolin. In this, 197 accused have been arrested from 15 states of the country. Interpol has named the pangolin the most trafficked mammal in the world. Parts of the wild animal pangolin are smuggled from many countries in Asia and Africa. Its demand is mainly in countries like China, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Vietnam etc.
