1 killed, 13 injured after semitrailer rams into public safety office in U.S. Texas

Houston, Apr 13 (UNI) One person was killed and 13 others were injured after a stolen semitrailer rammed into a Department of Public Safety office on Friday in Brenham, U.S. state of Texas, authorities said.

Eight of the injured were treated on the scene and released, while six others, including the fatality, were transported to local hospitals with serious injuries, officials of the Texas Department of Public Safety said at a news conference.

The driver, identified as 42-year-old Clenard Parker, was uninjured and was taken into custody, according to the officials. The charges against him are not immediately available.

Parker was denied the renewal of his commercial driver’s license at the Department of Public Safety office in Brenham on Thursday. He stole the semitrailer later on the day, local media reported.

“This deliberate, heinous act is a reminder of the dangerous work done by our law enforcement and licensing agencies that work to provide public safety and services,” Texas State Senator Lois Kolkhorst, who represents the area, said in the statement.

SkyEye video showed extensive damage to the front of the office and the 18-wheeler.

The Texas Department of Public Safety, part of the state government, is responsible for statewide law enforcement and driver license administration.

Brenham is a rural town about 75 miles (about 120 kilometers) away from Houston, the largest city of Texas.
