Temp crosses 48 degree mark in Niwari

  • Heat wave red alert for many dists

Bhopal: The sun is blazing in Madhya Pradesh, bringing intense heat to the region. On Tuesday, the state experienced record-breaking temperatures for the season, with Niwari district recording over 48 degrees Celsius. This marks only the second time in 20 years that Madhya Pradesh has seen such extreme heat. In response, the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for several districts for Tuesday.

The maximum temperature in Prithvipur in Niwari district reached 48.7 degrees on Monday, which has happened for the second time in 20 years in the history of MP.   Earlier on 13 May 2022 and 14 May 2022, the temperature in Bhind was recorded at 48.7 degrees.

Temp above 47 degrees in 6 cities

On Tuesday, a severe heat wave swept across 16 districts of Madhya Pradesh, causing extreme temperatures. Six cities experienced temperatures above 47 degrees Celsius, while 12 others saw temperatures exceed 45 degrees. Datia recorded a temperature of 47.4 degrees, Guna reached 47.2 degrees, Khajuraho hit 47.1 degrees, and Damoh recorded 47.0 degrees.

The scorching heat is wreaking havoc in Sheopur district. For the last one week, the maximum temperature here has been registering above 45 degrees Celsius.

Heat wave red alert

The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert to many districts regarding severe heat wave for Tuesday. Red alert of heat wave has been issued in Shajapur. Whereas, intense heat wave is forecast in Rajgarh, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Guna, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Gwalior, Datia, Bhind, Morena, Sheopur, Sagar, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh and Niwari districts.

The sudden surge in temperature is becoming a major concern in Ratlam, as it’s not only humans that feel the heat, the soaring temperature has also made birds and animals restless.

In a video that went viral on social media platforms, several bats have fallen from the sky, succumbing to sunstroke during a succession of blistering heatwaves. Similar incidents have also been reported in Balaghat district earlier, a widespread issue across the state.
