- Say HC has stayed eviction
Bhopal: On Tuesday, the administration team arrived in Fiza Colony, Nariyal Kheda, to demolish houses and shops, sparking uproar among residents. Protesters took to the streets, claiming that a stay order from the High Court was in place. They questioned the legality of the demolition.
Fiza Colony consists of 15 to 20 houses, built about 40 years ago when a builder sold plots to families. The situation escalated when a woman filed a petition alleging manipulation in land measurements, ultimately winning her case in court. This led to the current demolition efforts targeting the shops in the colony.
Residents have been living in Fiza Colony for four decades, and they sought recourse through the High Court due to ongoing disputes over the past four to five years. A stay order was granted until June 16, but despite presenting this order to the officials, the demolition proceeded. On Tuesday afternoon, Municipal Corporation officials, led by Bairagarh SDM Ravi Shankar Rai, along with police from three stations, initiated the demolition of about four shops.
An elderly resident expressed her distress, stating that all her children were married from this home. Another resident, said that he had purchased his plot 40 years ago and was taken by surprise when he received a notice on April 15. He lamented the sudden nature of the demolition, questioning where they would relocate their homes and belongings. SDM Ravi Shankar Rai defended the actions, citing encroachment on government land and asserting that eviction orders had been issued.
