Haryana polls: Three-tier security ring thrown around counting centres

Chandigarh, Oct 7 (UNI) A three-tier security ring has been thrown around counting centres in Haryana where counting of votes of the Assembly election will begin at 8 am on Tuesday, officials said.

Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapur said, “Every aspect of the counting process has been carefully studied to ensure a smooth operation. Senior officials from Haryana Police will monitor the situation, and strict action will be taken against any attempts to disrupt law and order.”

Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel will form the first level of security, the Haryana Armed Police (HAP/IRB) officers will be deployed in the second ring and district police personnel will form the third security ring, officials said.

A total of 12,000 police personnel have been deployed to ensure security across these centres, said Kapur.

In addition to 30 CAPF and 30 IRB/HAP units, district police officers have been assigned across the state where voting to pick a new 90-member Assembly took place on October 5.

Police checkpoints have been established within a 100-metre perimeter of counting centers. CCTV cameras have been installed in all 90 strong rooms, enabling close monitoring of all activities.

Police commissioners and superintendents have been instructed to ensure strict compliance with the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

The DGP informed that each counting center will have three separate entrances – one each for Counting Staff, Agents, and staff carrying Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

Parking arrangements for representatives of political parties and counting staff have been made, along with other basic facilities. Fire safety services and ambulances will also be stationed at the centers.
