Mumbai, Jan 7 (UNI) Vir Das has spoken about the careful and deliberate process that led to Aamir Khan agreeing to produce his debut directorial venture ‘Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos”, offering a glimpse into the discipline and conviction that underpin the collaboration.
He explained how the superstar truly believes in a project and how he wholeheartedly backs it. Recalling that moment, Vir said that approaching Aamir was a bit intimidating, given the high esteem in which he is held.
Vir said, “He is on such a high pedestal that you don’t really communicate much with him. I hadn’t spoken to Aamir sir for almost 10 years. Then I messaged him saying, ‘Aamir sir, can I call you?’ He replied, ‘Yes, call now.’ And when he picked up, it felt like we spoke every week.”
Vir recounted how candidly he presented his film idea to Aamir. “I told him, ‘Sir, I have a film, and I want you to make it. If you don’t make it, no one else will,” he said. “He said, ‘Okay, come next week and give me a narration.’ I’ve never seen a superstar so easygoing and quick to meet.'”
What followed, however, was a rigorous process driven entirely by the script. “I gave him the narration, and after that, there were nine more narrations,” Vir said, explaining that Aamir’s focus remained firmly on the writing. “His main concern is always the script.”
Vir further shared how the project moved ahead in stages. “After nine narrations, he said, ‘Take some money and shoot five scenes.’ I did the test shoot, and then he said, ‘Go on floors.'”
Produced under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions, “Happy Patel: Khatarnak Detective” is helmed by Vir Das. The film stars Mona Singh, Sharib Hashmi, and Mithila Palkar in lead roles. The film is scheduled to release in theaters on January 16, 2026.
