Unhygienic food at Railway stalls in Kerala sparks concern

Thiruvananthapuram, July 19 (UNI) Concerns are mounting over the poor hygiene standards at catering stalls operating in and around railway stations across Kerala.

Several passengers have reported instances of stale or improperly handled food, prompting backlash on social media.

The Railway Police acted on complaints and conducted surprise inspections at catering stalls and IRCTC-run eateries operating near major railway stations in the state, according to the Railway Police Superintendent.

Officials found lapses in kitchen cleanliness, inadequate supply of safe drinking water, and violations in food packaging safety.

The inspections were carried out in the backdrop of widespread concerns raised on social media and among train passengers regarding the hygiene of food served on the Vande Bharat Express.

The SP stated that monitoring will be intensified and such surprise inspections will continue. He also urged the public and passengers to report such issues immediately to the nearest railway police station.

As part of the inspection, IRP personnel, SHOs from various railway police stations, and DYSPs from the Ernakulam and Palakkad subdivisions participated.
