Telangana CM to conduct aerial survey of flood-hit districts today

Hyderabad, Aug 28 (UNI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will conduct an aerial survey of flood-affected districts today to assess the situation caused by incessant rains, Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao announced.

The Chief Secretary held a teleconference with the Collectors and Superintendent of Police (SP) of Medak, Kamareddy, Nizamabad, Nirmal and Sircilla districts, which have been severely affected by heavy rains.

Senior officials, including Special Chief Secretary of Disaster Management Arvind Kumar, Principal Secretary of Irrigation Rahul Bojja, Fire Services DG Nagi Reddy, and special officers assigned to flood-hit districts also participated in the review.

Ramakrishna Rao stated that timely measures by the administration had helped reduce the severity of the disaster, despite continuous rainfall over the past 24 hours. He, however, warned officials to remain on high alert as heavy rains are forecast for today, especially in Nirmal and Kamareddy districts. SDRF and NDRF teams would be deployed if necessary, he added.

The Irrigation Department informed that the inflow into the Pocharam reservoir has decreased, placing it out of danger. Meanwhile, residents of Roop Singh Thanda and Wadi villages who were trapped in floodwaters have been safely evacuated.

With three lakh cusecs of water being released from SRSP and 1.90 lakh cusecs from Nizam Sagar Project, the Chief Secretary directed officials to move people living in downstream areas to safer locations. He also instructed the police to provide security at culverts, overflowing streams and low-lying areas to prevent untoward incidents.

Ramakrishna Rao further directed officials to ensure that those shifted to rehabilitation centres are provided with sufficient food, drinking water, and other essentials. He also asked the Electricity Department to restore damaged power lines and transformers without delay, an official statement said late on Wednesday night.
