Dindori: Ufri village in Karanjia block of Dindori district, where water crisis used to take a severe form, has now become self-sufficient with the facility of clean drinking water. This is the same village where villagers had to travel long distances for every drop of water, where a large part of women and children used to waste most of their day in arranging water. Now all this is a thing of the past.
Village elder Gangaram Baiga says, “There was so much problem of water in summer that many times we had to go to fill water even at night. Many times it happened that many people of the village fell ill due to drinking dirty water from the cracks. We never expected that our village would also get tap water. Now the situation has completely changed. This is no less than a miracle for us.” PM Janman Yojana became a lifesaver
In this village struggling with water crisis, Jal Jeevan Mission was effectively implemented along with PM Janman Yojana. A large drinking water tank was constructed here by the Public Health Engineering Department, from which water was supplied to every house through pipeline. The main objective of this scheme was to provide clean drinking water to tribal families, so that they could get relief from water crisis.
Sukli Bai, a woman from the village, says, “Earlier we had to wake up early every morning and go out for water. Many times we had to fill water even at night, because there was a lot of crowd in the morning. Our entire routine was dependent on water, farming and child care were also left behind. Now we do not have this worry, now time is saved and we can focus on other work.”
