Bhopal: Leader of the Opposition Umang Singhar on Friday accused the State Government of evading accountability and responding with arrogance whenever the Opposition raised issues of public concern in the Assembly.
Singhar stated that when the Opposition questioned the deaths of 35 people allegedly caused by contaminated water in Indore, instead of providing answers, the Government attempted to “remind us of our place”. He claimed a similar response was received when Congress members sought a discussion on access to clean drinking water and when they demanded debate on alleged irregularities highlighted in the CAG report.
He further alleged that the State’s debt has mounted to nearly Rs 6 lakh crore, asking why loans were being raised without transparent justification and why citizens were burdened with taxes to repay them. He criticised the Government for avoiding meaningful discussion on the Budget and failing to furnish accurate information.
Raising the issue of the 2,762-hectare Dhirouli coal project, Singhar alleged that tribal families facing displacement were ignored while land was allotted to the Adani Group in violation of norms. He maintained that Congress legislators would continue to raise public issues, asserting that the Assembly is “a temple of democracy” where the people must remain paramount above party lines.
