Mumbai, Oct 29 (UNI) Director Anuj Gulati’s debut feature ‘WingMan’, following its successful reception at international ventures such as the National Indian Film Festival of Australia (NIFFA) 2025, has now entered the world of OTT, making its streaming-service debut on Lionsgate Play.
Another accolade for the filmmaker’s catalogue after winning the award for Best Indie Film at NIFFA, Gulati’s latest venture is a deep dive into social realities, the multiple aspects of modern-day relationships, including their bitter accompanying ironies and contradictions.
Gulati has received global acclaim for his short film ‘The Manliest Man’, bagging awards such as the Carl Lerner Award for Social Significance at NYC’s 2016 First Run Festival, and the Grand Jury Prize at the Literally Short Film Festival in Houston, Texas, in 2017.
The ‘WingMan’ stars actors Shashank Arora (‘Bharat’, ‘Rock On 2’), Trimala Adhikari (‘Sector 36’, ‘Ajji’) and Auritra Ghosh (‘State of Siege: Temple Attack,’ in lead roles.
The film’s story revolves around a call centre agent Omi (Shashank Arora) at a dating service, whose life spirals out of control after a breakup leads him into an unexpected connection with another woman.
Exploring the growing emotional disconnect, and human isolation in modern-day relationships, it also highlights the irony of this trend; happening in an age where people are connected to each other from across the world.
Featuring a score by Tajdar Junaid, acclaimed for his work on ‘Mukti Bhawan’ and ‘Axone,’ behind the camera, the film features cinematography by Kumar Saurabh (‘Bose: Dead/Alive, Bhakshak’) and production design by Prashant Bidkar (’12th Fail’).
The filmmaker, explaining the idea behind his feature said: “I began writing ‘WingMan’ when I was surrounded by people, yet many of us felt lonely.
“That contradiction fascinated me. The film grew from that irony — that in a hyperconnected world, intimacy can still feel out of reach. ‘WingMan’ is about that ache, that humour, and that very modern fear of silence.”
