Bhopal: In a swift action, the Gunga police of rural Bhopal arrested a Rajasthan-based man within 12 hours for allegedly blackmailing a local resident using an obscene video call. The prompt response by the police helped prevent a potentially larger financial fraud.
According to Gunga Police Station In-Charge Harishankar Verma, the complainant, 49-year-old Aslam Khan Mansoori from Barua Khar village, lodged a written complaint on Monday. He stated that on June 7, 2025, around 11:45 am, while en route to Bhopal for Eid celebrations, he received a Facebook message and video call from a profile named ‘Nisha Jain’.
Mansoori said he answered the call and saw an unidentified woman performing obscene acts. Soon after, a screen-recorded video clip of the call was sent to him, followed by a demand for Rs 2,000 through a QR code. Fearing defamation, he transferred Rs 490, but the threats persisted.
Subsequently, he received WhatsApp messages from the number 6267997150, which displayed the name “ADG Gaurav Malhotra” along with a police officer’s profile picture, further escalating the intimidation.
Police used technical surveillance to trace the accused
After registering a case, the Gunga police used technical surveillance to trace the accused. A team raided Harra Kheda village and apprehended the suspect as he tried to flee. He was identified as 31-year-old Irshad Khan, a resident of Chhatarpur village in Alwar district, Rajasthan.
Khan confessed to using obscene video calls for blackmail. He was arrested and produced before the court.
