New Delhi, Oct 16 (UNI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today launched a sharp critique against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that the Prime Minister is “frightened of Trump” and allows the US President to influence India’s policy decisions.
Gandhi backed his claim by citing specific instances that, he says, reveal Modi’s reluctance to assert India’s independent stance on the global stage.
Highlighting the cancellation of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s planned visit to the United States, Gandhi labeled it as “a clear sign of fear” on Modi’s part. He also pointed to Modi’s absence from the recent Sharm el-Sheikh summit, describing it as further evidence of the Prime Minister’s hesitance to confront US pressure.
In a pointed statement posted on X, Rahul Gandhi said, “PM Modi is frightened of Trump… Allows Trump to decide and announce that India will not buy Russian oil.”
This accusation reflects Gandhi’s broader argument that India’s foreign policy under Modi has become excessively influenced by Washington, rather than being driven by India’s own strategic interests.
Gandhi also criticized Modi for continuing to send congratulatory notes to Trump despite what he called “repeated snubs,” suggesting an imbalanced relationship that favors American interests over Indian sovereignty. Furthermore, Gandhi lamented Modi’s silence on the contentious Operation Sindoor, accusing the Prime Minister of failing to stand firm on this sensitive issue in dealings with the US.
These remarks by Rahul Gandhi add fuel to the ongoing debate over India’s diplomatic posture with the United States during Modi’s tenure. As political discussions intensify, Gandhi’s pointed criticisms are likely to provoke deeper scrutiny of the government’s foreign policy choices and their implications for India’s global standing.
