Srinagar, Mar 30 (UNI) Ahead of the Lok Sabha election, Police along with Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) on Saturday conducted flag marches in several districts of Kashmir.
The main objective behind these flag marches is to instill a sense of security and harmony in the society and to ensure free, fair and fear free elections, police said.
There are three Lok Sabha seats in Kashmir — Anantnag-Rajouri, Srinagar and Baramulla and they will go to polls on May 7, May 13 and May 20 respectively.
The flag marches were carried out in Ganderbal, Baramulla, Pulwama, Kulgam, Sopore, Shopian, Bandipora & Budgam districts of Jammu and Kashmir, they said.
The marches were led by senior officers of Police and CAPF.
“The objective of these flag marches was to instill confidence in the voters for a secure and harmonious environment, thereby enabling them to participate in the electoral process without any fear. These measures underscore the motto of ‘Free and fair elections, enabling every citizen to exercise their democratic right to vote freely and without constraint,” a police spokesman said.
The flag marches were taken out days after a crucial high-level security meeting was held at the Police Control Room (PCR) Srinagar to assess and enhance the preparedness for the electoral process.
