PM Modi to bring dictatorship in country: Congress leader

Satara, Sep 19 (UNI) Former Maharashtra chief minister and senior Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan on Tuesday expressed his deepest fear that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would bring dictatorship in the country if he wins general elections next year.

Addressing a public meeting at Shere in Karad tehsil of the district after ‘Jansavad Yatra’ organised by Karad-south Congress committee, he claimed that Modi is considering to hold Lok Sabha elections before the end of its tenure, fearing loss of BJP in coming elections of five states.

In order to become prime minister for third time, he (Modi) will imitate other authoritarian countries and introduce ‘One Country, One Election’ concept, he expressed and alleged that Modi can go to any length for power.

While raising doubt over whether any semblance of democracy remained in the country, the Congress leader maintained that Modi was taking steps in that direction.

Citing an instance, he said that elections to local bodies have not been held for the last two years.

He alleged that Modi and his coterie have a plan to break equality, humanity in the country and the mastermind behind it is BJP’s ideological parent, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

Even though the central government has spent billions of rupees on advertisements, there has been no difference in the condition of common people, Chavan noted.

He accused the central government of selling the state-owned properties in the country and privatising some as well as auctioned off 90,000 hectares of railway land.
