New Delhi, Oct 1 (UNI) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has charge-sheeted four more accused in a CPI (Maoist) case related to the promotion of the banned outfit’s terror activities in Chhattisgarh.
Three of the accused, identified as Sunita Potam, Shankar Muchaki, and Dashrath alias Dasru Modiyam, were office bearers of Moolwasi Bachao Manch (MBM), a front organisation of the CPI (Maoist). The fourth accused, Mallesh Kunjam, is an armed cadre of the CPI (Maoist) and remains absconding.
MBM was banned by the Chhattisgarh Government under Section 3(1) of the Chhattisgarh Special Public Security Act in October last year.
According to NIA investigations, all four accused were involved in the collection, storage, and disbursal of funds for the CPI (Maoist). These funds were allegedly used to stage protests against the democratically elected government and to obstruct development activities in the state. The illicit funds were channelled through front organisations like MBM.
So far, a total of six persons have been arrested in the case. Seven accused, including absconder Mallesh, have been charge-sheeted.
Bijapur Police had initially charge-sheeted two accused, Gajendra Madvi and Laxman Kunjam, in November 2023. The case was registered after the recovery of Rs 6 lakh from Gajendra and Laxman, both overground workers of MBM, in May 2023. They were allegedly on their way to deposit the funds in various bank accounts at the behest of CPI (Maoist) leaders when they were apprehended.
The NIA, which took over the case in February 2024, filed its first supplementary charge-sheet in August 2025. Fresh charges were filed against Gajendra and Laxman, and another accused, Raghu Midiyami, was also named in that charge sheet.
Further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
