New Delhi, Aug 27 (UNI) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) today issued notices to Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police and the District Magistrate of Ghaziabad, seeking a detailed report within two weeks in connection with the death of a disabled woman who was gang raped and brutally assaulted.
In a statement, the rights body said it has taken suo motu cognisance of the death of the hearing-impaired woman in her Ghaziabad residence on August 21.
The incident follows a brutal assault allegedly committed by two men in the Loni area on August 18.
The Commission noted that if the reports are accurate, the case highlights grave human rights violations. Consequently, it issued notices to the state Director General of Police and the District Magistrate of Ghaziabad, directing them to submit the detailed investigation report within two weeks.
The report is expected to cover the progress of the investigation and any compensation provided to the victim’s family.
According to media reports dated August 22, the victim was undergoing treatment at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS), Delhi. The two accused have been arrested. According to reports, they had abducted the victim while she was walking alone in an isolated area before assaulting her.
